Regional Equipment Locations

Faced with shrinking municipal budgets, many communities in Worcester County are having difficulty finding the funding to purchase equipment they need to respond to large scale emergencies. In addition, much of the equipment these communities already have was purchased before September 11th and was designed to respond to community not regional and national events. In order to address this shortfall and ensure that region has the equipment it needs, the Central Region Homeland Security Advisory Council has purchased various pieces of emergency response equipment and has strategically staged it across Worcester County. Some of this equipment includes portable light trailers and radio towers. When a community, an agency, or a regional needs specialized equipment or additional resources to help it cope with an emergency, it can draw these resources from Homeland Security’s equipment pools. When they are done with the equipment, it is returned, serviced and ready to be used for the next emergency. This strategic staging of resources not only provides specialized equipment that a community might not be able to purchase on its own but prepares the region as a whole to respond to large scale emergencies.
